Bats are very clean little animals that groom themselves constantly using their hind feet as combs.
It is unusual to find any parasites on bats living in small colonies in domestic roofs.
However bat-specific parasites are frequently present in large colonies, especially in in caves, mines and other natural roosts. It is very rare though to find more than one or two parasites on each bat.
Many bat parasites are a type of wingless fly, there are also bat ticks and bat mites to be found in large colonies.
Some bat parasites are not only bat-specific, they are limited to a particular species of bat. None of these parasites can live on humans and they die very quickly in the absence of their bat hosts.
