Bats and Disease

There is no disease whatsoever that can be transmitted to humans or domestic pet just by having bats living on your property, in your roof or a bat flying in the room with you.

There are though a number of diseases that have been linked to bats, although not carriers of these diseases infected bats can die from them, just like any other mammal.

Always be careful not to get bitten when handling any wild animal, including bats. Use thick gloves or a cloth to handle bats and do not allow children to stroke or handle any grounded bat.

Remember that to find a bat on the ground is not usual and a grounded bat might be sick.
